Object Removal
Anything that should not be in the frame, gone.
Something is in your shot that should not be. A pedestrian who wandered through the background. A brand logo you do not have clearance for. A parked car in a period piece. A power line across a landscape. A competitor’s product on a shelf.
Object removal reconstructs what was behind the thing you are taking out, and holds that reconstruction steady across every frame as the camera moves and the light changes. On a locked-off shot with a simple background it is quick. Over a moving camera, across a textured background, with something passing in front — it is the reason this is a craft.

How the work is done
- 01
Feasibility check
Some removals are genuinely hard and some are impossible without a reshoot. That answer comes before the quote, not after the invoice.
- 02
Track the surface
Planar tracking in Mocha Pro locks the reconstruction to the background so it moves exactly as the plate moves.
- 03
Reconstruct
Background rebuilt from adjacent frames where the camera reveals it, and painted where it never does.
- 04
Roto the overlaps
Anything crossing in front of the removal gets its own matte, so the fix sits behind it rather than on top of it.
- 05
Regrain and review
Grain matched to source, then reviewed at full speed and frame by frame across the whole sequence.
The honest answer about AI object removal
Generative tools have genuinely changed the first 70% of this job. Background reconstruction that used to take a day can take minutes, and VFX Magic uses those tools daily. What they still do not solve is temporal consistency — an AI fill that is convincing on frame 1 and convincing on frame 2 is often subtly different between them, and that difference reads as boiling or shimmering when the sequence plays. The remaining 30% is knowing which frames will break, matching grain so the patch does not float, and keeping 200 shots consistent so the sequence does not flicker. That part has not moved.
Object Removal — questions
01Can you remove any object from a video?
add
Can you remove any object from a video?
Almost always, but the honest answer depends on what is behind it and whether the camera ever reveals that background. A person walking across a static wall is straightforward. Something that occludes the same complex, moving area for the entire shot with no reveal has to be painted from scratch, frame by frame — possible, but genuinely expensive. Send the shot and you get a feasibility answer before a quote, not after.
02How do you remove a person from a video without leaving a blur?

How do you remove a person from a video without leaving a blur?
By reconstructing the actual background rather than smearing over it. The background is tracked so the reconstruction stays locked to the surface, rebuilt from frames where the camera reveals what is behind the subject, painted where it never does, and then grain-matched to the plate. Blur and smear are what happens when a tool patches pixels without tracking the surface underneath them.
03Can AI remove objects from video automatically?

Can AI remove objects from video automatically?
AI handles the first pass well and VFX Magic uses it daily — generative fill gets background reconstruction to roughly 70% in minutes. What it does not reliably solve is temporal consistency: a fill that is convincing on any single frame often differs subtly between frames, which reads as boiling or shimmering in motion. The remaining work is catching the frames that break, matching grain, and keeping a whole sequence consistent.
04Can you remove a logo or brand from footage for legal clearance?
add
Can you remove a logo or brand from footage for legal clearance?
Yes, this is a common request — removing unclearable brands, competitor products and signage. The logo is removed and the surface underneath reconstructed, rather than blurred or covered with a box, so the shot still reads as a real filmed environment. This is regularly needed for commercials, documentaries and corporate video.

Clients come to VFX Magic looking for this work under a lot of different names — remove object from video, remove person from video, logo removal for legal clearance, remove car from footage, power line and cable removal, sign and text removal, unwanted people removal, anachronism removal for period pieces. If you are describing a problem rather than a technique, that is fine too: describe the shot and you will get an honest answer about whether it can be fixed.
